Setting Up Face ID
Overview
Face ID is Apple’s facial recognition system that lets you securely unlock your iPhone, authorize apps, and make payments. This guide explains how to set up Face ID on the iPhone 16e after IT has completed initial setup.
Steps to Set Up Face ID

Open Settings

Tap the Settings app from your Home screen.

Go to Face ID & Passcode

Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode.

Enter your device passcode when prompted.

Start Face ID Setup

Tap Set Up Face ID.

Position Your Face
-
Hold your iPhone at a comfortable arm’s length, in front of your face.

Make sure your entire face is inside the on-screen frame.

Move Your Head to Complete the Scan

Slowly move your head in a circle to capture all angles of your face.

If you cannot move your head in a circle, tap Accessibility Options.

Complete the First Scan

When the first scan finishes, tap Continue.

Complete the Second Scan

Move your head again to finish capturing your face.

Finish Setup

After the second scan, tap Done.

Face ID is now ready to use.

Optional Settings

Alternate Appearance: Allows you to add another look (e.g., with glasses, different hairstyle).

Go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Set Up an Alternate Appearance.

Reset Face ID: If you want to start over, tap Reset Face ID.

Face ID for Apps: Scroll down to enable Face ID for specific apps (e.g., Mail, Outlook, banking apps).
Tips for Best Results

Keep the TrueDepth camera clean and unobstructed.

Use Face ID in good lighting.

Hold the phone at a natural viewing distance (arm’s length).

Face ID adapts to small changes (beards, makeup, glasses), but if your appearance changes significantly, set up an Alternate Appearance.
Troubleshooting

| Face ID not recognizing you | Re-scan your face in good lighting, or reset and set up again |
| Wearing a mask | Use Face ID with a Mask option in settings (works with iOS 15.4 or later) |
| Camera blocked | Ensure no case, dirt, or smudges cover the front camera |
