Customizing the Action Button

Overview

The iPhone 16e replaces the traditional mute switch with a new Action Button. By default, it toggles Silent Mode, but you can customize it to perform a variety of functions. This guide explains how to configure the Action Button to fit your needs.

How to Customize the Action Button

  1. Open Settings

    • Tap the Settings app from your Home screen.

  2. Go to Action Button Settings

    • Scroll down and tap Action Button.

  3. Choose an Action

    • Swipe left or right on the Action Button options until you find the one you want.

  4. Confirm Selection

    • Once chosen, the selected action is active immediately. You can test it by pressing the Action Button.

Available Actions

  • Silent Mode – Toggle ringer on/off (default behavior).

  • Focus – Quickly enable a Focus mode (Do Not Disturb, Work, Sleep, etc.).

  • Camera – Launch the Camera app instantly.

  • Flashlight – Toggle the flashlight on/off.

  • Voice Memo – Start a new voice recording.

  • Magnifier – Use the iPhone as a magnifying glass.

  • Shortcut – Run a custom Shortcut (e.g., open Teams, launch Outlook, send a preset message).

  • Accessibility – Trigger accessibility features like AssistiveTouch or VoiceOver.

Tips

  • If you often use one feature (e.g., Camera or Teams), assign it to the Action Button for faster access.

  • Shortcuts can be powerful: create a custom workflow and launch it instantly with the Action Button.

  • Press and hold the Action Button for best results. Some actions respond to long press only.
