Customizing the Action Button
Overview
The iPhone 16e replaces the traditional mute switch with a new Action Button. By default, it toggles Silent Mode, but you can customize it to perform a variety of functions. This guide explains how to configure the Action Button to fit your needs.
How to Customize the Action Button

Open Settings

Tap the Settings app from your Home screen.

Go to Action Button Settings

Scroll down and tap Action Button.

Choose an Action

Swipe left or right on the Action Button options until you find the one you want.

Confirm Selection

Once chosen, the selected action is active immediately. You can test it by pressing the Action Button.

Silent Mode – Toggle ringer on/off (default behavior).

Focus – Quickly enable a Focus mode (Do Not Disturb, Work, Sleep, etc.).

Camera – Launch the Camera app instantly.

Flashlight – Toggle the flashlight on/off.

Voice Memo – Start a new voice recording.

Magnifier – Use the iPhone as a magnifying glass.

Shortcut – Run a custom Shortcut (e.g., open Teams, launch Outlook, send a preset message).

Accessibility – Trigger accessibility features like AssistiveTouch or VoiceOver.
Tips

If you often use one feature (e.g., Camera or Teams), assign it to the Action Button for faster access.

Shortcuts can be powerful: create a custom workflow and launch it instantly with the Action Button.

Press and hold the Action Button for best results. Some actions respond to long press only.
